GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Ames02: the scientific name for spore
Anchipathic/anchipathy: a telempathic link between siblings that is so deep that it’s almost like a shared existence
Apian: someone who lives in Apex
Basan: someone who lives in the outer-city of Basal
Democracy: a system governed by the denizens by vote and/or through their elected representatives
Empathic/empath: a genetic talent, feeling someone else’s emotions
The Expulsion: the period of time when Gajeea and Way City defeating and pushing Juvia out of Way City’s territories. After the Takeover
Family Member: A peer belonging to one of the Peerage Families (see ‘House’)
*Upper Cousin: someone who married into the upper echelons, or has clear lines back to the Family
*Lower Cousin: a branch brought into the Family through business arrangements, some other mutually beneficial means, or one who joined a Family of higher status to save itself
The Foundering: the disaster that broke Way into Basal and Apex, creating the dichotomy that plagues the city to this day. Not much is known about it, the historical records have been mostly buried
Genetic (derog. gene-o): a person created from a strain of engineered DNA sequences. Generally combined to obtain specific traits or abilities
*First generation: born directly from a tank
*Second generation: a child with first gen parents or undiluted genetic heritage
*Third generation: Someone whose family has been diluted with organic blood
Grunge-monkey (slang): someone who lives inside the Slums
Hanalé: wolf-speak word for ‘double-edged blade’
Holodex: an encrypted transparent tablet that displays files on a 3D screen, mostly used for office work
House: a clan of pure-blooded genetics. The Peerage is made up of Upper and Lower Cousins who belong to one of six First Houses
The Infarction: operation to place sleepers into Way City’s infrastructure to knock out their ability to defend themselves, which allowed the Takeover
Kreek: a semi-derogatory Wolf term for someone who lives in the inner-city or Apex
Kinetic: a genetic talent, moving things without touching them or creating barriers out of the air
The Logue(s): The Black Cross’s database
The Machine/Esmarelda: a massive bio-mechanical A.I. that runs in the background of Way City, acting like a giant security system, mostly dormant until Shuu connects with it. It holds the history of the City, secrets of the Houses and a lot more that no one can access except its technician, the Machine uses the mental net-work to create a massive surveillance system. Its technician can access any function the Machine has (with in their physical limits)
*Machine’s technician: a precog who can access the Machine’s systems according to its algorithms (in Shuu’s case, the Machine also helps him deal with his visions by compartmentalizing his mind)
Mentalist: a blanket term for genetics with one of the three; empathy, telepathy or telempathy
Mental-network: like the wi-net, but made up of mental signatures accessible only to mentalists
Nato: wolf-speak for ‘little brother’
Neeta: wolf-speak for ‘little sister’
Oligarchy: a small group of people having control of a country, organization, or institution.
Organic (derog. gnat): a normally conceived person who cannot trace their parentage to any genetic of the third generation or higher
Peer: A genetic apian who is a member of one of the Houses that make up the Peerage
*First Peer: a pure-blood member of a First House, one of the six founding Houses that run the Peerage or a Family Member who has had the honor of being voted into the position, the highest status in Way City
*Second Peer: families that have married into the First Houses, or pure blood Families who have bought/worked their way up, Upper Cousins are usually Second Peers
Plagiopathic/plagiopathy (derog. leech): an ability that uses the telempathic channels to override one’s volition. Basically mind control. It’s a genetic talent created in the Black Cross’s lower labs
Precog: someone who can see future and past visions, a seer
*Auxiliary precog: someone who receives recycled visions from the Machine, not a true seer
Precursor: formal name for the precog who is connected to the Machine, visions relevant to the City will show up on the ‘pre-station’ as public knowledge
Pre-station: a broadcast station the Machine uses to air city-related incidents
The Regency: the temporary rule of a individual voted into power to guide a border city in times of unrest and internal struggle. The Regency can be ended a vote of the denizens taken every three years
Spore: the biological plant that makes Way City unique and dangerous to organics who were not raised in Way, excites severe bronchial distress that usually results in death within thirty-four hours if not properly treated or they haven’t completed the decontamination process upon entering the city. Can manifest in spore or fungus if not properly treated with sporacides (spore killer). The genetic race was created in the search for preventative measures
The Takeover: the period after the infarction when Juvia is in possession of Way City, before the Expulsion
Telepathic/telepathy: a genetic talent, hearing someone else’s thoughts
Telempathic/telempathy: a genetic talent, the combination of empathy and telepathy
Tuura: wolf-speak for ‘buddy’ can be derogatory or friendly
